February 27, 2027 · The 15th anniversary
A day for the world’s invisible community.
Anosmia Awareness Day is the world’s first day dedicated to smell loss recognition. Observed every February 27 since 2012, it brings together people who live with anosmia, their families, clinicians, researchers, and advocacy organizations across more than a dozen countries.
Why this day exists
Most days, anosmia is invisible. The condition affects roughly 1 in 20 people worldwide — and millions more since COVID-19 — but it gets almost no public attention compared to its prevalence. People who can’t smell often go undiagnosed for years, dismissed by clinicians, misunderstood by friends and family, and unable to find each other.
Anosmia Awareness Day exists to change that, one February at a time. It is the only day in the world dedicated specifically to smell loss recognition. Each February 27, people who have anosmia, their families, the researchers and clinicians studying it, and the organizations supporting them come together to share stories, raise visibility, and remind the world that this condition matters.
The 15-year anniversary
2027 will be the biggest yet.
On February 27, 2027, Anosmia Awareness Day turns 15. We want this anniversary to be the most visible, most ambitious campaign in the day’s history — driven by the largest community the day has ever had, in a moment when public understanding of smell loss has never been more attainable. We’re building the campaign now. Help us make it land.
Ways to participate
Three things anyone can do, anywhere.
01
Wear red.
Red has been the color of Anosmia Awareness Day since the beginning. On February 27, wear something red — a shirt, a scarf, a ribbon — and post a photo with #AnosmiaAwarenessDay. It’s the simplest thing you can do, and it works.
02
Share your story.
Whether you’ve had anosmia your whole life, lost your smell after COVID-19, or watched someone you love experience it — your story matters. Post on social, write to your local paper, tell the people who should know. Every personal story moves the conversation forward.
03
Spread the word.
Share the toolkit. Tag a clinician who should care. Email a journalist. Post the campaign graphics. The reach of Anosmia Awareness Day grows every year because real people decide to push it further than the year before.
